UN welcomes extension of opening of Adre crossing to deliver humanitarian aid to Sudan

The United Nations welcomed the decision by the Sudanese authorities to extend the opening of the Adre border crossing with Chad for an additional three months, which will allow United Nations agencies and their partners to continue delivering humanitarian assistance to people in need in Sudan.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric confirmed that the crossing represents a vital lifeline for millions of Sudanese people. Since the crossing reopened in mid-August, the United Nations and its partners have been able to transport more than 337 trucks carrying more than 11,000 metric tons. Providing food and relief supplies to meet the needs of approximately 1.4 million people in Darfur and the rest of Sudan.
