Australian defender Jason Guerría expressed his disappointment after a goalless draw with the Saudi national team in Thursday's match in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The clash between Al-Akhdar and Australia was decided by a goalless draw (0-0) in the match held at the “Rectangular Melbourne” stadium in the fifth round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
Jason said in a special statement to “Ezel” newspaper after the end of the match: “If haste and lack of luck had not made it so, we could have achieved a decisive victory. From the beginning our ambition was clear: to win and Saudi To qualify to break the partnership with the national team.”
He further said, “We came into the match with the intention of winning from the beginning and I think we gave a performance worthy of three points. The Saudi national team, under the leadership of its new coach, played a strong match, but we more deserved the victory.
With this result, the Saudi national team increased its score to 6 points on goal difference from group runner-up Australia in the third group standings of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
