Nationwide Middle for Wildlife discovers new scorpion species in Riyadh

RIYADH — A groundbreaking discovery has been made by the Nationwide Middle for Wildlife (NCW), as a brand new species of scorpion from the Leiurus genus was recognized within the Majami Al-Hadb Reserve, situated in southern Riyadh.

The revelation, backed by complete form and genetic analyses, has been documented in specialised worldwide wildlife journals, highlighting the importance of this discover.

Distinguished from different scorpion species inside the Kingdom, this discovery elevates the entire recognized world species depend to 22, with 5 of them thriving in Saudi Arabia.

The celebrated scientific journal Zookeys showcased this newfound scorpion in its Sept. 7, 2023, version, and the species has been formally added to the Zoobank and Genbank lists.
