More than 60,000 homes in the Czech Republic lost power after a severe storm.
The Czech news agency quoted energy companies as saying: The administrative region of Usti nad Labem, on the German border in the northwest of the country, is worst affected, with power temporarily cut off to more than 20,000 homes after trees fell on power lines amid high winds.
Heavy rains fell in the Czech Republic and neighboring Poland, raising water levels in many rivers and streams and flooding some areas. In the village of Sirola Neva in eastern Czech Republic, authorities evacuated about 40 people as a precaution. The village of Visnova, about 50 kilometers south of the capital Prague, can only be reached by heavy off-road fire trucks due to flooded roads. Rail traffic was also affected as trees fell on several railway lines due to the storm.
